Call the HelpLine at 1-800-642-5119 to be connected to a knowledgeable professional to assist you with questions you may have around caregiver support, Medicare, transportation, housing, long-term care options, transitioning after a hospital stay, wellness, nutrition counseling, preventing falls, supporting Veterans in their own homes, Meals-on-Wheels and much more.


Our five Area Agencies on Aging partner with local agencies to provide meals at community sites and Meals On Wheels to individuals who live at home and need a nutritious meal delivered.  Nutrition counseling may also be available to individuals.  For more information about what is available to you for nutritious meals, call our HelpLine at 1-800-642-5119.

Health Insurance & Medicare Counseling​​

Each of the five Area Agencies on Aging offices have certified State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) staff who provide counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and those about to become eligible for Medicare, including:
  • Information about eligibility and enrollment in all parts of Medicare: A, B, C and D
  • Open enrollment and assistance selecting a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan
  • Options for Medicare coverage, including Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)
  • Enrollment and eligibility for programs that help pay Medicare’s costs
  • Enrollment and eligibility in other health care programs, including Medicaid and VPharm
  • Medicare Supplemental Insurance
  • Long Term Care Insurance

SHIP staff also provide outreach and Medicare classes statewide to explain Medicare and how it works.
If you are about to turn 65 and need help to apply for Medicare, call your local Area Agency on Aging to ask to speak to a SHIP Coordinator at 1-800-642-5119. 

Caregiver Supports

Each of our five Area Agencies on Aging can help to identify local resources, training and services for caregivers.  There are support groups and other opportunities throughout the state to give a much needed break to family caregivers.   Each of our five area agency websites offers details on their websites, or please call our HelpLine at 1-800-642-5119.
